SNOW CREAM!

Snow Snow everywhere, why don't we just EAT IT?!!!!! Unless you have been living under a rock you have seen how the Southeast has been blessed with an abundance of snow! The kids out of school, and the adults who are really just kids at heart have gone wild with excitement! Yes there has been some complaining, but what can you expect from people who aren't use to snowy conditions and purposely live in the south for that reason. Combine icy roads with Crazy ATL drivers and traffic and you've got accidents galore! I was talking to my coworker this morning and she said that she watched on the news where a man was actually ice skating down one of the highways! How cool does that sound!! We are still waiting on salt trucks up here in alpharetta and north of us. I'm pretty sure they are all being used up in downtown ATL right now, oh well another home party day from me! Hey thanks to technology I've been able to work from home, so I'm good:) Right at this minute looking outside I see flurries coming down again!

I have been using facebook as a large entertainment source right now. Last night on my cousin Jennifer's profile she was talking about snow cream. I haven't had it in a long time, I remember my first time having it was at my brother's house in TN. It was really yummy!

There are all different ways you can make this, but the basic way is~
Take soft non yellow snow lol (pull off the hard ice layer to the soft snow underneath)
Stir in milk or evaporated milk if you have it, sugar, and vanilla!

People have all different types of measurements, I say do it to taste and consistency as you stir it together. Adding a lil bit of the ingredients at a time. As we all know vanilla is very potent so you only need a very small amount!! Then store the leftovers in the freezer in an air tight container.

I was unfortunately out of vanilla so I decided to use hot cocoa mix! You won't need too much sugar or any sugar since your using the cocoa mix. Add it in as you like. It was actually super yummy, could give a Wendy's frosty a run for it's money! I saw a lot of other yum ideas on Jennifer's wall too. Andrea suggested using flavored creamers, or adding pineapple. Mmmm wish I had some pineapple that sounds so YUM! Thanks for the ideas yall!

Stirring it together!

I call it Ice Hot Chocolate!:)

If you have too much snow around you, don't complain, just eat it!!!;)

MAGIC!

One big thing that I LOVE about my Mikey is that he is an awesome cook! When we first started dating we would do dates in the kitchen, and it would be a fun and harmonizing cooking time. Now 90% percent of the time it sounds like this~

"Mike don't put that much butter in there"

"Misty why are you using that kind of pot?"

"Don't you think that's enough salt?"

"JUST STOP, trust me I KNOW what I'm doing"

"I don't like my eggs like that!!"

"Fine then why don't you just do it yourself"

"GET OUT OF THE KITCHEN I'M COOKING!"

hahahaha That's what you get with two dominant personalities! For the other 10% of the time when we harmonize it is Magic! Tonight was one of those nights. I love when we don't really have a plan and just get creative and put a bunch of stuff together. Mike pulled out a few veggies from the freezer, carrots, broccoli, and cauliflower. He decided we should make some kind of casserole. He wanted to grill up some Chicken and make some rice to go with it. I looked in the fridge and we had a log of mozzarella and brie that I brought home from work. So I decide to make a cheese sauce out of that. We threw all the ingredients together and MAGIC! A yummy upgraded version on chicken and rice casserole.

How I make cheese sauce~ Equal parts butter and flour. You want a good amount of flour for thickness so that the cheese will adhere and not melt together into a lump, maybe about 3 tbsp. Melt the butter down over low heat, then add in the flour. Start adding in the milk slowly to the amount that you need of sauce, maybe about 3 cups total? I don't know I normally just do things as I see them. Then bring the skillet up to a boil over medium heat while stirring continuously. After the sauce thickens and it can coat the back of your spoon start adding in pre shredded cheese a lil bit at a time. I added in minced garlic, salt, pepper, and diced onion into the sauce too mmmmmm.

I loved the Brie and Mozzarella combination! Hope you all Had a fabulous weekend!

Think Before you Toss

I absolutely love when people share ideas with me. My sister in-law sent me an email, which is featured below, with a super cool, "green", and cheap way to make your own Potpourri!

**********
How to Create a Simmering Potpourri

Next time you eat an apple or orange (or both!) stop and think before you throw away the peel and core! These are the main ingredients needed for a savory simmering potpourri! I love for my house to smell good, but candles can get expensive. Now I can let the house smell yummy for a fraction of the cost while getting in my daily intake of fruits!

Save rinds, peels, or cores from any fragrant fruits. (I stick to apples and citrus fruits.)
In a large pot, add rinds, peels, cores, and a dash or two of spices or extracts that compliment the fruit. Cinnamon (ground and/or sticks), nutmeg, and cloves are a good starting point. Vanilla extract might work too! Fill the rest of the pot about 3/4 full of water.

Stir and bring water to a boil. The flavors will start to blend to create a very impressive fragrance. Then decrease to the lowest temperature setting.
Let your potpourri simmer for a few hours, remembering to stir every half hour or so. Add more water from time to time as much of it will evaporate.

*Under NO circumstance should the simmering potpourri be consumed. Discard the remains when finished and cooled to room temperature!

These are the ingredients I normally use when making the potpourri.

Not much on looks, but miiiighty fragrant! Yum!

Enjoy!

WATER WATER WATER!

My drink of preference is of course Water. I don't know where I got this from but if I had to choose between a soda and water, water would win. For some reason it grosses me out the thought of drinking flavored calories in order to quench my thirst. What can I say I'm kinda quirky. I get my exercise during the day from running to the water cooler about once every hour ha! Now I'm not saying I never ever drink a soda, every once in a blue moon I crave something with fizz.

To get on with my main topic. I have been telling people that most of the time when they think they are hungry it's actually because they need hydration. Our brains send out the same signal as when we're hungry so people will normally grab a snack or something, and this is just unneeded extra calories. I don't remember where I picked this info up at, but as I was reading this morning I found something to back it up.

Dr. Oz's Top 5 Mistakes Dieters Make

Mistake No 5:You Don't Drink Enough Water

The next time you feel hungry, take a big, long drink of water and you may not need to eat. Because the hormones in our intestines that tell us we're hungry are very similar to the hormones that let us know we're thirsty, we're not very good at distinguishing hunger from thirst, which is why we typically reach for food when we should be drinking. "Often hunger pangs are just your body screaming for a little extra H20," said Dr. Oz. And when we're not well hydrated, our metabolism drags. "Water is essential for burning calories," said Dr. Oz. "Adults who drink eight-plus glasses of water a day burn more calories than those who drink less."

So there ya go, there is my find to back up my statements! To read the whole Article go to

Well I'm headed to the Water Cooler, hope you all have a great day and drink lots of delicious water!
